A large bundle of white sage leaves, tied into a stick with white string. The bundle has been lit and blown out and is wafting fragrant smoke across a neutral background.

Crystal Cleansing Methods

Water – Place the crystal under running tap water or in a natural flowing river or spring. Leave to air dry or dry with a soft cloth only kept for crystal use.

*Not selenite, metals, lapis lazuli, turquoise

Amethyst Geode – Place individual crystals on the shallow flatter part of the geode for 24 hours.

Mother Earth – Bury crystals in soil for 24 hours using a deep indoor or outdoor pot with a growing plant, ideally sage, rosemary, lavender or rose. Make sure the crystals are completely covered. After 24 hours, brush of the dirt and wipe clean if needed. Small or delicate stones can be placed in a open ceramic dish on top of the soil.

*Best for points and unpolished natural stones

Fragrance – Circle a smudge stick or incense stick in anti-clockwise spirals in the air and over the crystals for 3 to 4 minutes. If you are using incense, leave it to continue burning near the crystals.

Sound – Ring a hand bell or Tibetan bell nine times over the crystals or strike a singing bowl over the crystals for a minute until the sound resonance stops. Do this 3 times in total.

Sunlight – Leave crystals from dawn until noon in sunlight on a bright windowsill or outside.

*Not Aventurine, amethyst, aquamarine, beryl, kunzite, citrine, sapphires, fluorite, rose quartz and smoky quartz

Moonlight – Leave crystals in sheltered place outside or on a windowsill under the light of a full moon.

*Best for rose quartz, moonstone, selenite, amethyst

Salt – Make 3 clockwise circles of salt around a crystal and leave for 12 hours. After cleansing, gather the salt and dissolve it in water. Then pour the salt water away under a running tap.
